A broken hydraulic hose can idle equipment far longer than you want, especially if you are waiting on a service truck or an OEM replacement. If you are near one of the O’Reilly Auto Parts locations that build custom hydraulic hoses, bring the failed hose to the counter and we will assemble a replacement while you wait. From hay balers and turf machines to excavators, loaders, forklifts, and other agricultural or construction equipment, O’Reilly stocks compatible hose and fittings so you can get back to work. Use the store locator to find a location that offers custom hydraulic hose service.
When you present the damaged assembly, our team will match the end fittings, cut new hose to length, and crimp the couplings so the new hose mirrors the original routing and orientation. Many mobile services and hose houses charge a fee for every crimp; at O’Reilly Auto Parts, assembly and crimping are free when you purchase the hose and fittings in store. For safety and per manufacturer guidance, we do not crimp new fittings onto used hose. A worn inner tube or fatigued reinforcement can compromise the crimp, and a mixed brand coupling may not meet pressure and impulse specifications. We build with new, compatible components so the finished assembly retains rated performance.
Your new hose is assembled with Gates hydraulic hose and fittings, for consistency and compatibility. We stock Gates MXT for lightweight flexibility, spiral constructions for higher pressure and impulse life, and non-conductive hose for applications that require electrical isolation. Coupling systems include one-piece MegaCrimp for 2-wire and MXT families and two-piece GlobalSpiral for 4-, 6-, and 8-wire spiral hose. If your application needs a specialty jacket or construction, we can special-order the correct Gates hose.
Bring the old assembly with fittings attached if possible. We will identify hose type and inside diameter, verify overall length and bend direction, and confirm the seat angles and thread forms on each end. The new hose is cut, the couplings are installed and crimped with calibrated equipment, and the finished assembly is inspected for crimp diameter, clocking, burrs, and jacket integrity. You leave with a ready-to-install hose; reinstall per your equipment manual and top up the reservoir with the correct hydraulic fluid.
Rubbing against a frame member or sharp edge wears through the jacket and exposes wire reinforcement, reducing burst strength and inviting a sudden rupture. Tight bends and kinks that violate minimum bend radius can crush the inner tube; every pressure pulse flexes the weakened spot until the tube delaminates and leaks. The crimp zone is the most stressed part of the assembly; although Gates hose and couplings are engineered for up to 1,000,000 impulse cycles, age, heat, vibration, or an incorrect assembly can create seepage at the ferrule long before a dramatic failure. Twisting a hose during installation or mis-clocking the ends introduces torsion that works the reinforcement with every cycle. Heat, UV exposure, and incompatible fluids can crack, soften, or swell the jacket and seals. Regular inspections along the full routing, looking for weeping at couplings, flattened arcs, exposed wire, jacket blisters, and a “spiralled” appearance that indicates torsion, help prevent unplanned downtime.
If you replace assemblies frequently, owning a hydraulic crimping machine can cut downtime. Correct crimping requires the proper die set, crimp dimensions, coupling family, and hose construction; without them, a hose can fail almost immediately at pressure. We can help you evaluate a shop crimper and dies and set up a starter inventory of Gates hose sizes and common end configurations, plus sleeves, guards, clamps, quick connects, and adapters. Even with your own crimper, you can rely on O’Reilly for refills and technical guidance.
A burst hose usually means lost oil. O’Reilly stocks the fluids you need to refill and bleed the system, including tractor hydraulic fluid and UTTO, non-conductive fluids where electrical isolation is required, and viscosity-specific oils such as AW-32, AW-46, and AW-68. We also carry turf-safe hydraulic fluids formulated to avoid grass burn or discoloration. Package sizes include 1-gallon, 5-gallon, and 55-gallon options. Absorbent granules, pads, and socks are available to manage spills during change-out.
Before loosening any fitting, depressurize the circuit and secure moving implements. Cap and plug open lines to keep contamination out, torque fittings to the manufacturer specification, and bring the system up gently to check for leaks at low pressure. Use abrasion sleeves, clamps, and stand-offs to keep the hose from rubbing through its jacket. Replace any assembly with exposed wire, bulges, or soft spots immediately.
