Store Availability and Recycling Procedures

When recycling fluids at O’Reilly Auto Parts, please ensure they are in sealed containers and be prepared to take your container home after we empty it. Environmental rules and recycling availability can vary by province and municipality*. Some locations are not permitted to accept certain materials or large quantities.

For specific guidance, contact your local O’Reilly Auto Parts before your visit to ensure we are able to receive the fluid and quantity you wish to recycle.

*Used antifreeze or coolant is generally classified as hazardous waste and is not recycled in-store. If a fluid container is damaged, or if it is leaking or contaminated with non-recyclable materials like coolant or gasoline, staff may return it to you for proper disposal through a hazardous waste program.

Core Charges, Refunds, and Stewardship Fees*

How O'Reilly Auto Parts Recycles Batteries

New automotive battery purchases typically include a refundable core charge. When you bring back the old battery within the timeframe shown on your receipt, the core charge is refunded to your original method of payment. In some jurisdictions, environmental stewardship or recycling fees are also added at the time of sale as required by local law. These fees are not refundable. For details about core return timing and documentation, ask the parts professional at the counter*.

*Other restrictions may apply, see your local store for details.

Our team members follow O’Reilly Battery Recycling Program guidelines for safe handling, labeling, and storage. When a customer brings in a recyclable battery, we date and label it, place it in a closed hazardous-waste container, and stage it in a secure area. Staff use appropriate protective equipment to inspect and package batteries. Units are then transported to the nearest O’Reilly distribution centre and shipped to an approved recycler that reclaims the available materials for recycling.
