Get FREE Battery Testing and Installation at O’Reilly Auto Parts

If your battery isn’t holding a charge, if your engine is cranking slowly, or if you just want to be sure of its condition, stop by any O’Reilly Auto Parts and our parts professionals will test your battery for FREE so you know where it stands. If the vehicle will not crank, you can also remove the battery and bring it in for a complete diagnostic, as well as free battery charging to support an accurate load test. As always, these services are offered at no cost.

Some vehicles may require a battery or system reset after disconnecting power. Check your owner’s manual before removal.

Free Battery Testing is Available For:

  • Cars, trucks, SUVs, and commercial vehicles
  • Motorcycles, ATVs, UTVs, and golf carts
  • Boats, personal watercraft, and other marine applications
  • Lawnmowers, tractors, and agricultural equipment

Battery Load Testing

Our parts professionals use digital load testers designed to report accurate battery health and condition. A proper load test is the way to evaluate a battery without checking the electrolyte directly, which is not possible on sealed battery cases. A multimeter can show open-circuit voltage, but it does not reproduce the heavy draw created by the vehicle’s starter and other accessories.

Our testers simulate starting conditions and determine whether the battery has reached the end of its service life. Results are delivered in seconds so you can decide on the right repair or replacement options.

Free Car Battery Installation

Ready to replace your battery? We will help you select the correct Super Start® battery for your vehicle and, on many applications, can also provide free installation*. Choose your battery from our available options, complete the purchase, and we will handle the install so you can get back on the road with confidence.

*Most batteries can be installed in store; however, some vehicles are not serviceable at O’Reilly Auto Parts locations due to battery location or technical requirements. Batteries in hard to access areas or vehicles that require constant voltage during replacement to avoid generating trouble code may not be qualified for this service.

Signs of a Weak Car Battery

A weakening battery can still start a vehicle in ideal conditions, which makes the problem easy to miss. Over time batteries lose capacity and may eventually need to be jump-started. Reduced power to accessories is also common, but if the battery does not hold a charge after shutdown, have the battery or charging system tested.

Other car battery failure symptoms may include:

  • Sluggish cranking
  • Limited or no power to accessories
  • Lights or electronics dimming significantly while starting
  • Clicking noises when the key is turned
  • Swollen battery case or a sulphur odour
  • Corrosion on posts or terminals

Why Car Batteries Fail

Heat and cold both shorten battery life, and damage that begins in summer often shows up when temperatures drop. This reduced cold cranking amperage can prevent the vehicle from being started and leave you stranded. The best replacement battery is one that meets or exceeds the vehicle’s original equipment specifications.
Vehicles that sit for long periods may not recharge the battery consistently, which reduces the ability to take a full charge. Once the surfaces of the battery plates shed their sulphate, the battery is effectively dead and will not recharge to its full capacity.

Whether you need a battery for a car or truck, a motorcycle battery, an ATV or lawnmower battery, or a marine deep-cycle battery, our parts professionals will test your battery for FREE and, if needed, help you select a new Super Start® battery available exclusively at O’Reilly Auto Parts.
